Activities

Spanish Club

The Central Catholic Spanish Club meets after school approximately twice a month to promote cultural awareness of Spanish speaking countries. The club has a faculty sponsor as well as student officers who help facilitate the activities we participate in throughout the school year.

We take two field trips a year; one in the fall and one in the spring. In recent years, we have, watched a performance of Don Quixote, attended a concert by the Grammy nominated group, Plena Libre, watched the Boston Hispanic Flamenco Ballet perform, and eaten at La Fiesta, a Mexican restaurant in Shadyside and Taco Loco, a Mexican restaurant on the South Side.

In our meetings we celebrate important Mexican holidays such as El Día de los Muertos in November and Cinco de Mayo in May. We also show movie features ranging from serious Latino films such as El Norte about the plight of Guatemalan immigrants living in the United States to light, adventure films such as The Mask of Zorro.

We have also participated in service projects to help Latino children in the Pittsburgh area through our Latino Outreach Ministry program at St. Hyacinth Church in Oakland.
