Getting Started
Central Catholic High School is an all-boys Catholic High School serving grades 9 through 12. Admission to Central Catholic is achieved through satisfactory test results, records and recommendations.
The application process begins in the autumn of the 8th grade year for those applying for 9th grade. For those seeking to transfer into the 10th or 11th grades the process begins in the spring semester. Central Catholic does not allow mid-year transfers or senior year transfers.
The admissions process is consists of four major steps: Inquiry, Application, Registration and Course Placement.
Inquiry
During the Inquiry Phase you will gather information on Central Catholic. This may include attending our annual Open House event (November 8, 2009) and scheduling a Visitation Day for your son. This typically takes place between October and December of the 8th grade year.
Open House
Each October or November Central Catholic will hold its annual Open House Event. The time and date will be advertised on this website and in local publication including the The Pittsburgh Catholic Newspaper. No registration is required.
Visiting CCHS
Each year Central Catholic invites the 8th grade boys from
designated Catholic grade schools ("feeder" or "partner" schools) to
spend a day at Central. The list of Central Catholic Partner Schools
can be viewed here .
Central Catholic will coordinate that visit with those grade schools
(listed below) and provide the transportation to and from Central
Catholic High School.
If your 8th grade son attends a public school or a Catholic
grade school not listed above, and would like to spend a day at Central
Catholic, please call 412-621-7505. Individual visits will be scheduled
throughout the 8th grade year beginning in late-October.
Application/Placement Test
Placement Test
The first official step the Application Process is taking the Placement Test for incoming freshmen. All 8th grade students applying for 9th grade MUST take this test either at Central Catholic or at another Catholic High School that uses the STS HSPT. Any applicants who miss this testing date will be subject to a make-up test later in the year if space permits. Update: This Placement Test at Central Catholic has passed. Prospective freshmen should download this Application Packet and follow the included instructions.
Financial Aid
Tuition assistance based on need is available for students from funds raised by alumni and friends of Central Catholic, the Bishop's Education Fund, and the E.I.T.C. Program. The aid application for the 2010-2011 school year will be available on February 1, 2010. Visit the Application Materials page for more information.
